Materials

Maximum economic efficiency through extensive prefabrication, excellent dimensional accuracy, extremely short construction periods and favorable behavior even under dynamic loads – arguments in favor of steel are unbeatable. We invest our know-how and resources to push the limits and produce steels of particularly high quality.

Standard steels

We deliver all profile dimensions according to the national and international standard norms for construction steel and fine-grained steel, offshore and shipbuilding steel and also in particular specifications. Special products like mining profiles are offered in the corresponding steel sorts.

Special steel grades

The special steel grades of the PT series (PT: ‘Peiner Träger’, i. e. Peine beam) meet extraordinarily high requirements with minimum yield strength values from 355 to 460 N/mm2. 

They are successfully used not only in offshore technology, but in general in all fields of steel structures, bridge, vehicle, crane, and reactor construction and in shipbuilding. 

Their excellent chemical, mechanical and technological properties are listed in these tables. 

Carbon equivalent value and weldability

The high-strength PT series steel grades offer excellent weldability due to their extremely low carbon equivalent value (CEV). They may be welded without preheating for the most part. We guarantee a maximum carbon equivalent value of:

  • 0,39 % for PT 355
  • 0,42 % for PT 420
  • 0,43 % for PT 460 

Resistance to brittle fracture

The PT series steel grades offer high resistance against brittle fracture due to their excellent toughness properties, even at low temperatures.

Properties in the product's throughthickness direction

To meet the highest standards, PT series steel grades are also offered with guaranteed properties in through-thickness direction upon request. This eliminates the risk of lamellar tearing.

Delivery conditions

Sections made from PT series steel grades can be produced in the delivery conditions ‘Normalising rolled’ and ‘Thermomecanically rolled’, upon request. In addition to this, a heat treatment furnace is available for normalising operations. 

Galvanising properties

Superb galvanising properties of all steel grades for Peine beams are obtained by a Si-content of 0,15 to 0,25 %.
