Roof Beams

Span Range
The economic span-range depends on the loading and frame centres, but may be generalised as below:

Simply-supported 15-50 Meter
Fixed-ended >35 Meter

Cantilevers
In cantilever design, deflection is a major consideration. Cellular beams, with their high interia and light weight, are often more economical than plain cantilever beams.

Tapered Beams
Tapered cellular beams are particularly economical. The manufacturing process is much less involved than those associated with tapered plain beams, plate-girders or trusses. (See Fig. 16)

 

For long spans, further economies can be made by splicing tapered members of reducing mass. (See Fig. 17)
