About 100 tonnes of scarp can be smeltet to molten steel in a DC electric arc furnace in less than 40 minutes. The molten steel is homogenised and analytically refind in a downstream ladle furnace..

The refined steel is subsequently cast in a six-strand continuous bloom casting plant to form charging material.

A vacuum plant is available for special requirements, to set low hydrogen and sulpur contents.

The charging material produced in Peine and Salzgitter is rolled out to form sectional products on two of the most modern, efficient rolling mills of their type worldwide, using the universal rolling process.

The continuous universal medium section mill (UMIT) operates in the 80 - 450 mm section depth range and up to a section width of  260 mm.

The heavy section mill (STS) is used to produce larger sectional products up to a web depth of 1.100 mm.
